In the theory of medical science, at its foundation, the idea is that the brain just magically comes alive and decides “You know what? I am just going to operate totally independently of the human being and just take over their entire lives and start screaming at them in audible voices and attacking their body. Why not?”.
Imagine buying a brand new car then putting 200,000 miles on it in the first year. That is what a spirit is doing to the brain and body. Premature wear and tear.
